On September 10, 2021, an off-site meeting of the interdepartmental working group on coordination of work and control over the implementation of the investment project of deep modernization of the enterprise was held at the Onega Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant. The meeting was attended by member of the Board of the Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation Vladimir Pospelov, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport Zahariy Dzhioev, Director of the Department of Shipbuilding Industry and Marine Technology of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia Boris Kabakov, Head of the Republic of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov, Rector of St. Petersburg State Maritime Technical University Gleb Turichin, representatives of the management of FSUE "Rosmorport", Director of JSC "OSSZ" Vladimir Maizus, heads of large industrial enterprises and educational institutions of the republic.

Developed by St. Petersburg State Maritime Technical University in cooperation with JSC "Center for Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Technology" and FSUE "Rosmorport", the project of deep modernization "OSSZ" involves the introduction of digital support for ship construction, robotization and automation of production processes with an increase in labor productivity not less than 2 times, the number of ships built from 3 to 10 annually and with the creation of at least 500 additional high-tech jobs. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to build new facilities (a block of hull workshops, a checkpoint, a data processing center, a gasification station, treatment facilities) and reconstruction of the existing slipway.

In terms of digitalization of the plant, it is necessary to introduce an integrated information system for digital production, which should ensure digital management of the enterprise as a whole and the efficient operation of its main production facilities using modern management and information technologies adapted for shipbuilding.In an interview with Karelian journalists, the head of the interdepartmental working group Vladimir Pospelov stressed that the project is unique due to a combination of several factors: the location of the plant at the intersection of the main waterways of Russia, the demand for the company's products and the presence of a developed hydraulic infrastructure in the region.

The Head of the Republic of Karelia noted that the implementation of the modernization project of JSC "OSSZ" will provide the republic with more than five hundred new jobs and assured that the government will solve the issue of training qualified shipbuilders in Karelian educational institutions.
